Cycling route past the Vliedbergen on Walcheren
This cycling route on Walcheren takes you across the quiet countryside of the island. Along the way you pass several special mounds known as vliedbergen. These are man‑made hills — typical for Zeeland — on which motte castles once stood in the Middle Ages: simple wooden defensive towers with a small fortified enclosure. They offered protection from flooding and provided views over the surrounding landscape.
